경우에 따라서는 MIA(Marxists Internet Archive)에 있는 독일어 원본(이하 DK)을 참조했다.

(SS) In Chapter I, Section 1, the derivation of value from an analysis of the equations by which every exchange-value is expressed has been carried out with greater scientific strictness; likewise the connexion between the substance of value and the determination of the magnitude of value by socially necessary labour-time, which was only alluded to in the first edition, is now expressly emphasised.
(BF) In Chapter 1, Section 1, the derivation of value by analysis of the equations in which every exchange-value is expressed has been carried out with greater scientific strictness; similarly, the connection between the substance of value and the determination of the magnitude of value by the labour-time socially necessary, which was alluded to in the first edition, is now expressly emphasized.
'ausdrücklich'는 'expressly(명시적으로, 특별히)', 'hervorgehoben'은 'stressed(강조된)'를 뜻한다.

(SS) Nevertheless I find now, on revising the French translation appearing in Paris, that several parts of the German original stand in need of rather thorough remoulding, other parts require rather heavy stylistic editing, and still others painstaking elimination of occasional slips.
(BF) Nevertheless, I find now, on revising the French translation which is appearing in Paris, that several parts of the German original stand in need of a rather thorough re-working, while other parts require rather heavier stylistic editing, and still others require the painstaking elimination of occasional slips.

(SS) Herr Mayer, a Vienna manufacturer, who in economic matters represents the bourgeois point of view, in a pamphlet published during the Franco-German War aptly expounded the idea that the great capacity for theory, which used to be considered a hereditary German possession, had almost completely disappeared amongst the so-called educated classes in Germany, but that amongst its working class, on the contrary, that capacity was celebrating its revival.
(BF) A man who in economic matters represents the bourgeois standpoint, the Viennese manufacturer Herr Mayer, in a pamphlet published during the Franco-German War, aptly expounded the idea that the great capacity for theory, which used to be considered a hereditary German attribute, had almost completely disappeared amongst the so-called educated classes in Germany, but that amongst the working class, on the contrary, it was enjoying a revival.

(SS) Gustav von Gülich in his "Historical description of Commerce, Industry," &c., especially in the two first volumes published in 1830, has examined at length the historical circumstances that prevented, in Germany, the development of the capitalist mode of production, and consequently the development, in that country, of modern bourgeois society.
(BF) In his Geschichtliche Darstellung des Handels, der Gewerbe, usw., especially in the first two volumes, published in 1830, Gustav von Gülich has already examined, for the most part, the historical circumstances that prevented the development of the capitalist mode of production in Germany, and consequently of the construction there of modern bourgeois society.
, welche die Entwicklung der kapitalistischen Produktionsweise bei uns hemmten, daher auch den Aufbau der modernen bürgerlichen Gesellschaft'에 해당하는 부분을 SS에서는 'the historical circumstances that prevented, in Germany, the development of the capitalist mode of production, and consequently the development, in that country, of modern bourgeois society'로 번역했으며 (BF도 비슷하다), 강 교수는 '자본주의적 발전과 근대 부르주아 사회의 출현을 가로막았던 역사적 조건들'로 번역하고 있다.

(SS) The theoretical expression of a foreign reality was turned, in their hands, into a collection of dogmas, interpreted by them in terms of the petty trading world around them, and therefore misinterpreted.
(BF) The theoretical expression of a alien reality turned in their hands into a collection of dogmas, interpreted by them in the sense of the petty-bourgeois world surrounding them, and therefore misinterpreted.
DK의 'der sie umgebenden kleinbürgerlichen Welt'를 SS는 'the petty trading world around them', BF에서는 'the petty-bourgeois world surrounding them', 강 교수는 '그들을 둘러싸고 있던 소(小)부르주아적 세계'라고 번역했다.
5.3.
(SS) The feeling of scientific impotence, a feeling not wholly to be repressed, and the uneasy consciousness of having to touch a subject in reality foreign to them, was but imperfectly concealed, either under a parade of literary and historical erudition, or by an admixture of extraneous material, borrowed from the so-called "Kameral" sciences, a medley of smatterings, through whose purgatory the hopeful candidate for the German bureaucracy has to pass.
(BF) The feeling of scientific impotence, a feeling which could not entirely be suppressed, and the uneasy awareness that they had to master an area in fact entirely foreign to them, was only imperfectly concealed beneath a parade of literary and historical erudition, or by an admixture of extraneous material borrowed from the so-called cameral science, a medley of smatterings through whose purgatory the hopeful candidate for the German bureaucracy has to pass.
DK의 'und das unheimliche Gewissen, auf einem in der Tat fremdartigen Gebiet schulmeistern zu müssen'을 SS는 'the uneasy consciousness of having to touch a subject in reality foreign to them'으로, BF는 'the uneasy awareness that they had to master an area in fact entirely foreign to them'이라고 번역했다.
'auf … schulmeistern zu müssen'은 SS와 BF에서는 having to lecture on …'

6.1.
(SS) Since 1848 capitalist production has developed rapidly in Germany, and at the present time it is in the full bloom of speculation and swindling.
(BF) Since 1848 capitalist production has developed rapidly in Germany, and at the present time it is in the full bloom of speculation and swindling.
DK의 'treibt heutzutage bereits ihre Schwindelblüte'를 SS와 BF는 'at the present time it is in the full bloom of speculation and swindling'으로, 강 교수는 '오늘날에는 이미 전성기적인 모습을 보이고 있다'라고 번역했는데 'speculation'은 '투기(投機)'를, 'swindling'은 ‘사기(詐欺)’를 뜻한다.
6.2.
(SS) In so far as Political Economy remains within that horizon, in so far, i.e., as the capitalist regime is looked upon as the absolutely final form of social production, instead of as a passing historical phase of its evolution, Political Economy can remain a science only so long as the class struggle is latent or manifests itself only in isolated and sporadic phenomena.
(BF) In so far as political economy is bourgeois, i.e. in so far as it views the capitalist order as the absolute and ultimate form of social production, instead of as a historically transient stage of development, it can only remain a science while the class struggle remains latent or manifests itself only in isolated and sporadic phenomena.

7.1.
(SS) Its last great representative, Ricardo, in the end, consciously makes the antagonism of class interests, of wages and profits, of profits and rent, the starting point of his investigations, naively taking this antagonism for a social law of Nature.
(BF) Richardo, ultimately (and consciously) made the antagonism of class interests, of wages and profits, of profits and rent, the starting-point of his investigations, naively taking this antagonism for a social law of nature.
7.3.
(SS) Already in the lifetime of Ricardo, and in opposition to him, it was met by criticism, in the person of Sismondi.
(BF) Already in Richardo’s lifetime, and in opposition to him, it was met by criticism in the person of Sismondi.
DK의 'in der Person Sismondis'에 대응하는 번역으로 SS와 BF는 'in the person of Sismondi'라고 표현했다. 'in the person of …'

8.1.
(SS) It was the time as well of the vulgarising and extending of Ricardo’s theory, as of the contest of that theory with the old school.
(BF) It was the period of vulgarizing and the extending of Richardo’s theory, and of the contest of that theory with the old school.
8.4.
(SS) On the other hand, the class struggle between capital and labour is forced into the background, politically by the discord between the governments and the feudal aristocracy gathered around the Holy Alliance on the one hand, and the popular masses, led by the bourgeoisie, on the other; economically by the quarrel between industrial capital and aristocratic landed property - a quarrel that in France was concealed by the opposition between small and large landed property, and that in England broke out openly after the Corn Laws.
(BF) On the other hand, the class struggle between capital and labour was forced into the background, politically by the discord between the governments and the feudal aristocracy gathered around the Holy Alliance, assembled in one camp, and the mass of the people, led by the bourgeoisie, in the other camp, and economically by the quarrel between industrial capital and aristocratic landed property. This latter quarrel was concealed in France by the antagonism between small-scale, fragmented property and big landownership, but in England it broke out openly after the passing of the Corn Laws.

9.1.
(SS) It was thenceforth no longer a question, whether this theorem or that was true, but whether it was useful to capital or harmful, expedient or inexpedient, politically dangerous or not.
(BF) It was thenceforth no longer a question whether this or that theorem was true, but whether it was useful to capital or harmful, expedient or inexpedient, in accordance with police regulations or contrary to them.
9.2.
(SS) In place of disinterested inquirers, there were hired prize fighters; in place of genuine scientific research, the bad conscience and the evil intent of apologetic.
(BF) In place of disinterested inquirers, there stepped hired prize-fighters; in plate of genuine scientific research, the bad conscience and evil intent of apologetics.
9.3.
(SS) Still, even the obtrusive pamphlets with which the Anti-Corn Law League, led by the manufacturers Cobden and Bright, deluged the world, have a historic interest, if no scientific one, on account of their polemic against the landed aristocracy.
(BF) Still, even the importunate pamphlets with which the Anti-Corn Law Leagues, led by the manufactures Cobden and Bright, deluged the world offer a historical interest, if no scientific one, on account of their polemic against the landed aristocracy.

(SS) But since then the Free Trade legislation, inaugurated by Sir Robert Peel, has deprived vulgar economy of this its last sting.
(BF) But since then the free-trade legislation inaugurated by Sir Robert Peel has deprived vulgar economics even of this, last sting.

(Outlines of Political Economy According to Mill)』에서 이미 탁월하게 해명하였듯이 바로 "부르주아" 경제학의 파산선언이었다.

11.1.
(SS) In Germany, therefore, the capitalist mode of production came to a head, after its antagonistic character had already, in France and England, shown itself in a fierce strife of classes. And meanwhile, moreover, the German proletariat had attained a much more clear class-consciousness than the German bourgeoisie.
(BF) In Germany, therefore, the capitalist mode of production came to maturity after its antagonistic character had already been revealed, with much sound and fury, by the historical struggles which took place in France and England. Moreover, the German proletariat had in the meantime already attained a far clearer theoretical awareness than the German bourgeoisie.

(SS) As soon as they found that these tactics no longer fitted in with the conditions of the time, they wrote, under pretence of criticising my book, prescriptions “for the tranquillisation of the bourgeois mind.” But they found in the workers’ press — see, e.g., Joseph Dietzgen’s articles in the Volksstaat — antagonists stronger than themselves, to whom (down to this very day) they owe a reply.
(BF) As soon as they found that these tactics no longer fitted the conditions of the time, they wrote prescriptions ‘for tranquillizing the bourgeois mind’, on the pretext of criticizing my book. But they found in the workers’ press — see for example Joseph Dietzgen’s articles in the Volksstaat — chapions stronger than themselves, to whom they still owe a reply even now.

(David Richardo’s Theory of Value and of Capital)』에서 가치·화폐·자본에 관한 내 이론이 본질적으로 스미스와 리카도 이론의 필연적인 발전이라고 논증하였다.

16.1.
(SS) That the method employed in “Das Kapital” has been little understood, is shown by the various conceptions, contradictory one to another, that have been formed of it.
(BF) That the method employed in Capital has been little understood is shown by the various mutually contradictory conceptions that have been formed it.

21.1.
(SS) and not only is that law of moment to him, which governs these phenomena, in so far as they have a definite form and mutual connexion within a given historical period.
(BF) and it is not only the law which governs these phenomena, in so far as they have a definite form and mutual connection within a given historical period, that is important to him.
SS와 BF는 'a given historical period'라는 표현을 썼는데, DK에서는 'in einer gegebnen Zeitperiode'로 서술되어 있다.
21.2.
(SS) Consequently, Marx only troubles himself about one thing: to show, by rigid scientific investigation, the necessity of successive determinate orders of social conditions, and to establish, as impartially as possible, the facts that serve him for fundamental starting-points.
(BF) Consequently, Marx only concerns himself with one thing: to show, by an exact scientific investigation, the necessity of successive determinate orders of social relations, and to establish, as impeccably as possible, the fact from which he starts out and on which he depends.
21.3.
(SS) For this it is quite enough, if he proves, at the same time, both the necessity of the present order of things, and the necessity of another order into which the first must inevitably pass over; and this all the same, whether men believe or do not believe it, whether they are conscious or unconscious of it.
(BF) For this it is quite enough, if he proves, at the same time, both the necessity of the present order of things, and the necessity of another order into which the first must inevitably pass over; and it is a matter of indifference whether men believe or do not believe it, whether they are conscious of it or not.
21.4.
(SS) If in the history of civilisation the conscious element plays a part so subordinate, then it is self-evident that a critical inquiry whose subject-matter is civilisation, can, less than anything else, have for its basis any form of, or any result of, consciousness.
(BF) If the conscious elements plays such a subordinate part in the history of civilization, it is self-evident that a critique whose object is civilization itself can, less than anything else, have for its basis any form or any result of consciousness.
21.5.
(SS) For this inquiry, the one thing of moment is, that both facts be investigated as accurately as possible, and that they actually form, each with respect to the other, different momenta of an evolution; but most important of all is the rigid analysis of the series of successions, of the sequences and concatenations in which the different stages of such an evolution present themselves.
(BF) The only things of importance for this inquiry are that the facts be investigated as accurately as possible, and that they actually form different aspects of development, vis-à-vis each other. But most important of all is the precise analysis of the series of successions, of the sequences and links within which the different stages of development present themselves.
DK의 'beide Tatsachen (both factors)'을 BF는 'the facts'라고 번역했다.
21.6.
(SS) As soon as society has outlived a given period of development, and is passing over from one given stage to another, it begins to be subject also to other laws.
(BF) As soon as life has passed through a given period of development, and is passing over from one given stage to another, it begins to be subject also to other laws.
21.7.
(SS) In a word, economic life offers us a phenomenon analogous to the history of evolution in other branches of biology.
(BF) In short, economic life offers us a phenomenon analogous to the history of evolution in other branches of biology.

(SS) Whilst Marx sets himself the task of following and explaining from this point of view the economic system established by the sway of capital, he is only formulating, in a strictly scientific manner, the aim that every accurate investigation into economic life must have.
(BF) While Marx sets himself the task of following and explaining the capitalist economic order from this point of view, he is only formulating, in a strictly scientific manner, the aim that every accurate investigation into economic life must have.
DK의 'enforschen'은 'to explore' 혹은 'to investigate'란 뜻으로 쓰이는데, SS와 BF는 'follow'로 번역했다.

(SS) Whilst the writer pictures what he takes to be actually my method, in this striking and [as far as concerns my own application of it] generous way, what else is he picturing but the dialectic method?
(BF) Here the reviewer pictures what he takes to be my own actual method, in a striking and, as far as concerns my own application of it, generous way. But what else is he depicting but the dialectical method?
(DK) Indem der Herr Verfasser das, was er meine wirkliche Methode nennt, so treffend und, soweit meine persönliche Anwendung derselben in Betracht kommt, so wohlwollend schildert, was andres hat er geschildert als die dialektische Methode?

24.1.
(SS) To Hegel, the life process of the human brain, i.e., the process of thinking, which, under the name of "the Idea," he even transforms into an independent subject, is the demiurgos of the real world, and the real world is only the external, phenomenal form of "the Idea."
(BF) For Hegel, the process of thinking, which he even transforms into an independent subject, is the creator of the real world, and the real world is only the external appearance of the idea.
24.2.
(SS) With me, on the contrary, the ideal is nothing else than the material world reflected by the human mind, and translated into forms of thought.
(BF) With me the reverse is true: the ideal is nothing but the material world reflected in the mind of man, and translated into forms of thought.

(SS) In its mystified form, dialectic became the fashion in Germany, because it seemed to transfigure and to glorify the existing state of things.
(BF) In its mystified form, the dialectic became the fashion in Germany, because it seemed to transfigure and glorify what exists.
26.2.
(SS) In its rational form it is a scandal and abomination to bourgeoisdom and its doctrinaire professors, because it includes in its comprehension and affirmative recognition of the existing state of things, at the same time also, the recognition of the negation of that state, of its inevitable breaking up; because it regards every historically developed social form as in fluid movement, and therefore takes into account its transient nature not less than its momentary existence; because it lets nothing impose upon it, and is in its essence critical and revolutionary.
(BF) In its rational form it is a scandal and an abomination to the bourgeoisie and its doctrinaire spokesmen, because it includes in its positive understanding of what exists a simultaneous recognition of its negation, its inevitable destruction; because it regards every historically developed form as being in a fluid state, in motion, and therefore grasp its transient aspect as well; and because it does not let itself be impressed by anything, being in its very essence critical and revolutionary.
